Release of Recommendations for Injection Safety during Head Nurses’ Conference
Palic - November 25th 2011
At the annual Head Nurses’ Conference in Palic, the Project Team presented the publication “Recommendations for injection safety”. The release of the recommendations, prepared in cooperation with the Association of Health Workers in Serbia, was the culmination of the injection safety campaign conducted by the TA-HCW Project.

Training for Healthcare Workers on Injection Safety accredited by Serbian Health Council, June and September 2011, Serbia
The Technical Assistance for the Treatment of Healthcare Waste Project Team, in cooperation with the Serbian Association for Healthcare Workers has delivered the first seven courses on Injection Safety for healthcare workers and head nurses as part of the ongoing activities by the EU funded Healthcare Waste Treatment Project. Seminars have been conducted in Požarevac, Smederevska Palanka, Vranje, Leskovac, Niš, Šabac and Belgrade in June 2011. Course was accredited by Serbian Health Council. Additional Seminars are planned for September 2011 (Lepenski Vir, Vrnjacka Banja, Kragujevac, Kikinda, Zrenjanin, Belgrade – Faculty of Stomatology and Gerontology Centre “Bežanijska Kosa”, Užice).

Seminars for healthcare workers - April 7 to April 20, Serbia
How far have we come in preparing the applications for HCW treatment operating permits and HCWM plans? What about reporting to the Environment Protection Agency using GIO1 and GIO 3 forms? In the period from April 7 to April 20, the Project team organized seminars in Subotica, Novi Sad, Cacak, Niš, Zajecar and Belgrade. The main objective of these seminars was to continue preparing representatives of healthcare institutions, charged with healthcare waste management, for their work on documents and reports in line with the legislation regulating the field of healthcare waste management in healthcare institutions.

January 18 and 19, 2011, National Institute for Public Health "Dr. Milan Jovanović Batut", Belgrade, Serbia
Cooperation with the National Institute for Public Health for the preparation of refresher courses for healthcare waste management professionals is an important step towards the improvement of knowledge and skills in this field. Institutes of Public Health play a key role in increasing the overall knowledge level among the employees of healthcare institutions. |

Rulebook on Healthcare Waste Management in force
The by-law regulating healthcare waste management in the Republic of Serbia came into force on November 3, 2010. Publishing of this Rulebook is the result of a joint effort of the Ministry of Environment, Mining and Spatial Planning and the Ministry of Health.

Project kick-off: September 1, 2010 Belgrade
Joint Project of three Ministries, entitled "Technical Assistance in Healthcare Waste Treatment in Serbia", funded by European Union, will be realized by the consortium of COWI and EuroHealthGroup from Denmark.
